Happy, Healthy and Confident Companion Birds...Naturally.
The Natural Feather

Birds We Raise

We breed a variety of birds so as to provide suitable companions for all individuals and lifestyles. The Natural Feather encourages you to do as much research on companion birds as possible in order to help you choose the species of bird that will blend in best with your lifestyle and preferences.  We have an extensive bird library and would be happy to recommend books that have proved helpful to us in our own research!

Currently we breed Lovebirds, Cockatiels, Bourke's Parakeets, Red-Bellied Parrots and Severe Macaws.  Please scroll down for our notes and observations on these species.

Lovebirds

We find Lovebirds to be:

1.  Highly social, quirky birds that have a very distinctive set of comical behaviors.

2.  Great pets for busy households with older children.

3.  Robust eaters and drinkers.

4.  Most active in the early morning--they love to greet the sun!

Cockatiels

We find Cockatiels to be:

1.  Perky, curious little birds.

2.  Highly social with both humans and other birds.

3.  Beautiful singers who are rarely loud.

4.  Wonderful pets for families with supervised young bird handlers.

Bourke's Parakeets

We find Bourke's Parakeets to be:

1.  Beautifully unique parakeets.

2.  Quiet birds that have a soft, sweet song in early morning and evening.

3.  Excellent aviary birds that can be housed with most finches.

4.  Mild-mannered pets suitable for apartments and condos.

Red-Bellied Parrots

We find Red-Bellied Parrots to be:

1.  Highly intelligent birds that are easily trained.

2.  Fairly good talkers and voice mimickers.

3.  Inquisitive and curious explorers.

4.  Easily startled and jumpy at times.  Best for quieter households with older kids.

5.  Smaller, exotic-looking birds who love the stimulation people can offer them!

Severe Macaws

We find Severe Macaws to be:

1.  Comical, active birds with beautiful green plumage.

2.  Fairly noisy in mornings and evenings or when they're in need of a snack!
